Fascism and Communism

It is true that Fascism is generally considered to be anti Communist. This was evident from the World War II in which Facist dictators such as Adolph Hitler of Germany and Benito Mussolini of Italy clashed with Communist nation Russia tooth and nail and very bitterly. Both in Communism and Fascism, individual liberties are highly suppressed and State’s interests are of highest priority. In fascist countries, there is a great hero worship and certain individual becomes the dictator and people are swayed by his speeches and personality and blindly follow him like a flock of sheep most willingly that are led to the butcher.

The American President Cornered

The stakes are high. Not only for the American president, but for American's ability to work in the world, as well as for world peace and stability. There are great changes happening economically, politically and even religiously. Geopolitical forces are realigning and the events over the next several years will determine their structure for decades to come. The following analysis is close enough to American and the Middle East to understand them, yet far enough away to see the big picture.

Erich Fromm on Destructiveness

Bill

Visiting the library for Fromm's The Art of Loving (which they have reserved for me), I checked out what looks to be a thorough treatment of the opposite of love.  I really think it will relate to your book, but if not, it already has opened my eyes to some things.  Most notably, Fromm disagrees with the notion that aggression is innate in man.  He points out that much of our thinking has been conditioned to accept that destructiveness is just part of man's nature, much of that concept based on comparisons with animal behavior.

Religion and Communism

Is Communism itself a religion, or is it the emodiment of all that most religions strive to awaken adherents to grow and to live beyond? This article explains the roots of Communism in the Modern era from the philosophies of Carl Marx and Friedrich Engels through its implementation in China, the USSR, to its failure to deliver on its promises and consequent disintegration. More important however is the analysis here of the resulting killing of the soul that Communisim has wrought.

From the article:

When people join a party such as Communism, the human spirit does not get inspired from inwards. On the other hand, people identify themselves as members of a group with a common objective and are ready to fight for it and in this case, it would be hatred to wards a section of people. They loose their spirit and become mechanical robots and as a cog in a wheel. Life is purely mechanical devoid of any challenge except to listen to the propaganda of communist philosophy of class hatred. Marx stated,” It is not the consciousness of men that determine their existence, but rather, it is their social existence that determines their consequences while those with open mind think other way. Unfortunately, Communism does not believe in universal life and respect for human spirit that which is the hall mark of any religion. Under the myth of discipline the rights of individuals are razed to the ground. Communism demolished under its feet the human dignity, intellectual conscience and love.

The Problem With Evangelcalism

The greatest problem with Evangelicalism has not yet been noticed in the West, and is essentially a problem with evangelism. This problem will only rise into view as the the War On Terrorism becomes better understood in the publics mind. As we better understand the ideology behind these terror attacks, we will come to understand that they want to do the same thing that we want to do—it's called conversion.

Water, Blood and the Vampire Connection.

Syndicated from: The Gates of Horn - Gateway to the Inner Realms on Wed, 01/24/2007 - 11:59

Last year, on August 26th I posted an essay entitled “We are all Orchestral Players.” In it, as usual, I connected dots from various research projects. I explained how Backster with his lie detector discovered that plants register human emotions, and are affected by them, and how Vogel discovered that distance had no diminishing effect on the ability of plants to receive thought energy from humans. The inverse square law so beloved of physicists did not apply. This work is summarized in the The Secret Lives of Plants by Tomkins and Bird.

Time out of Mind

Syndicated from: The Gates of Horn - Gateway to the Inner Realms on Sat, 01/20/2007 - 20:38

On 7/2/2006 I posted A Matter of Time. in which I described how Deepak Chopra went to see a Vedic astrologer in India who picked out his horoscope written centuries before and stunned him with the accuracy of its current information.

Well, a great many of the kind of people who would read this blog from choice are among those who consider that the year 2012 is a kind of watershed in the history of Earth and those currently living on it. The Hopis and the Mayans and several other sets of people have ancient prophecies in which this date is, to put it bluntly, the end of time.

Variation on a Theme

 Mike, Bill, and All

Mike's suggestion was to expand on a theme that I mentioned ...something that I see in Christ.

Bill said a few words:  "Christ is the universal connector. Not the founder of a new religion, but the end the dividing walls and the bridge between peoples. Paul talked only about Greek and Jew because that was his audience. But the concept was much broader."

Love is the Basis of All Religions

There are many religions in the world that have evolved over a period of time and followers of all these religions have one aim and goal. It may be called bliss, realization, and union with infinity, reaching eternal truth or being saved. The aim is how to be enlightened on the path that they have decided to tread on? The famous Vedic Sanskrit prayer verse is highly relevant (1):

Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya

(Out of darkness lead me O Lord into light)

Helen Duncan, imprisoned because she wasn’t a Fraud

Syndicated from: The Gates of Horn - Gateway to the Inner Realms on Thu, 01/18/2007 - 12:13

In this country everyone knows about the men who have been put away by the government without trial, without access to legal process, and who are all treated as guilty terrorists just because someone in our government said they were. Such injustice always come home to roost at some time or other. We have already seen the way in which America is regarded with distaste, contempt or hatred throughout the world because of the insane actions of our paranoid representatives.

How Do We Know When One Is Realized

We know that every one strives to attain realization of truth in the world (1). The aspect of realization and its nature have been dwelt differently in various religions. Can any one say that he has attained realization and truth? Divinity is not be declared by any one by himself. “The one who says ‘I have realized truth in fact has not realized any thing. It means, he has not shed his ego which is one of the fundamental requirements for attaining realization of truth. It is subjective, private and personal and not to be declared openly. Most of the mighty peers such as Lord Jesus, Ramakrishna (India) and Swami Vivekananda (India) and Ramana Maharshi (India) were not recognized fully in their own life time. Persecution of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) by the Meccan Arabs is well known who even planned to kill him and he had to escape to Medina (2). There were many criticisms, in fact, Jesus was greatly persecuted hated and was finally crucified. But, time has revealed his greatness. Similarly Buddha was persecuted in his life time (3). It is not possible for us to test some one whether he has attained realization of truth. Similarly a person also can not test his own accomplishment in his pursuit of realization. In fact, most of the great men such as Prophets were persecuted and hated during their life time and their greatness was realized only after their death after passing off of many years.

Erich Fromm on Faith

The following is quoted from The Art of Loving by Erich Fromm.

The ability to love depends on ones' capacity to emerge from narcissism…This process of emergence, of birth, of waking up, requires one quality as a necessary condition: faith. The practice of the art of loving requires the practice of faith.

Rational faith is rooted in productive intellectual and emotional activity. In rational thinking, in which faith is supposed to have no place, rational faith is an important component.

The history of science is replete with instances of faith in reason and visions of truth. Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton were all imbued with an unshakable faith in reason. For this Bruno was burned at the stake and Spinoza suffered excommunication.…This faith is rooted in one's own experience, in the confidence in one's power of thought, observation, and judgment, While irrational faith is the acceptance of something as true only because an authority or the majority say so, rational faith is rooted in an independent conviction based upon one's own productive observation and thinking ,

The Purpose of Man's Life

The most interesting questions that a man faces in this world are, “why God has created world and what the purpose of man’s life is and what are the goals?” It would be necessary to know the origin of world, and man to know the purpose of his being in the world. All religions give explanations for these questions as per their beliefs.

IT IS A MUST TO HAVE NEVER ENDING HOPE

Hope is great thing in this world. It keeps people struggling further and further inspite of many odds in the life. A poor man lives always in hope of becoming better and comfortable in future. A rich man suffering ailments goes to the doctors with great hope of getting cured fully so that he can enjoy the comforts of life. A gambler runs to the gambling den always with a hope of winning the bet. Nations wage wars with hope of winning and meeting the goals. A tigress leaves her young cubs in a cave hoping that they would be safe and goes out hunting. A bird lays eggs in her nest and flies out for food hoping that they would be safe. At times a snake eats away those eggs. A preacher of a religion preaches to a crowd hoping that some would be convinced about what he spoke. Politicians spend fortunes in elections in India hoping to make multiples of that money after winning elections to the legislative assemblies or parliament of the country in their shady dealings in various projects. Scientists carry on their research hoping to invent something for which they are struggling. Even former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein had a hope that he would be spared of execution by hanging just before he was taken out of the prison for execution on the fateful day. But he did not escape. Many world leaders hoped that he would be spared and would escape gallows ultimately. On the last day of the final cricket Test match between South Africa and India at Cape Town recently, poor Indians and the players desperately hoped that rain would interfere and save the match in which they were facing inevitable and shameful defeat. India was defeated by South Africa and Rain God did not interfere. Thus hope is the fundamental requirement to a man for his life and continued struggle on this earth. Above examples have been quoted to highlight that man continues to live on hopes again and again. If there is no hope he is as good as dead wood.

At-One-ment

Whether Atheist or Theist, superstitious or empericist, human beings seek at-onement, that is, Salvation. Deny it we may, claim to have it safely locked away in organizational membership we might, but pursue it we must. Yet many are those imprisoned by its impostors, few are those who recognize it, and even fewer those who find their way to it. It is the human condition.

Materialism and Spiritual Philosophy

Man is the only living being in the entire universe that is far superior to other living beings. We are not very sure of presence of equal or superior beings on some distant planet or solar system. Science is however hopeful that intelligent beings might be existing at some place in the universe and scientists are making some experiments to make some contact with them in a hope to find them. Of course, till something concrete proof is available, we can conclude that man is the only intelligent being in the universe. All other beings take birth, live and die in a routine way while man has examined the concept of his existence and put forward intelligent theories accordingly. He has exploded the mysteries of nature, tamed wild animals, created living beings by cloning, made aero planes, traveled into outer space, made atom Bomb, rockets, missiles, landed on moon and returned. There is no end to the list of awe inspiring achievements. Religions have evolved over a period of time to help people to lead systematic lives. Spiritual pursuits form important ingredients of all the religions. Materialism also is a part of human invention (1).

Nexus of North Korea and Iran Could Be Dangerous to USA

There is a popular saying that birds of same feather flock together. How truly said? North Korea and Iran are entirely different in race, culture, religion, social life and mind- set apart from being separated by thousands of miles from each other. What made them to become bosom friends rubbing shoulders with each other in modern times? It is strange that an Islamic fundamentalist country under Mullahs like Iran chose to align along the side of non- believers who practice Buddhism, rather idol worship although Buddhism rejects the practice as per the teachings of Buddha. Buddhism in original form is extinct today and they turned into idol worshippers. The only reason for them to get close and become palls is the strong hatred towards Americans, in straight and simple terms. Both these nations consider America as their staunch enemy.
