MERIT IN DRAIN
Submitted by K Prabhakar Rao on Fri, 02/29/2008 - 08:17. Ambedkar caste system Mandal commission Medical education in India ReservationsIn India reservations have been implemented based on caste and now even Muslims are given reservations in various fields. This continued policy of reservations after gaining independence has caused untold damage and bitterness in society and the very purpose has been defeated. Now people are more concerned about caste. It is more entrenched in society now. Merit has disapperaed long time ago in the selection process. Tremors were already felt after report of Mandal commission was released and was about to be implemented. The leaders are taking the country to disaster by the short sighted policies. At some stage in India caste war is inevitable and probably Balkanization of the country based on caste can not be ruled out....

UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS
Submitted by K Prabhakar Rao on Thu, 02/28/2008 - 07:39. colonial hang over Regimental dinner nights sai baba traditins and customs in armyWhile I was in the Academy at Dehra Dun decades ago, I was grilled into a British type Army. As Gentlemen Cadets, we were expected to be always in full suit with a hat. While walking on the road, whenever we came across wife of an officer we used to bow to her slightly lifting the hat. By the time I left the Academy, my hat developed a worn-out patch with a hole at the crown and brim. I had to throw away the hat while leaving the Academy. Now-a-days, no one wishes ladies in such a manner. You will be peculiarly looked upon as if you are a Madagaskar Lemur...........

TURKEY CHASES KURDISH REBELS IN IRAQ
Submitted by K Prabhakar Rao on Wed, 02/27/2008 - 10:19. Ali Al Dabbagh Erdogan george w bush Gregory smith kurds pkk Saddam Hussein Tom casey turkey White HouseTurkey is again in the news. It is now waging a mini war within Iraq. In fact, Turkey is a troubled state. It has been facing stiff resistance from a section of its own population comprising of Kurds in its eastern province in the neighborhood of Iraq (1). In spite of the saber rattling and threats Turkey however did not send its troops in strength into Iraq that could have caused great instability. Infact USA and Russia advised Turkey against such adventure that could have caused instability in the region that is already much volatile. Most of the operations were air attacks, using helicopter gunship and recently by attack air craft such as bombers apart from some commando operations. Even this phase appears to be over and Turkey has now dispatched its troops in strength into Iraq for limited operations. How effective the results would be? Once the Turkish troops leave it is only a matter of time for the regrouping and re establishing of these rebel bases in Northern Iraq and this is inevitable....................

Peter’s view is that the cross must be central to our theology; Graham’s response is that in practice this leads to a downplaying of discipleship and ethics. It seems to me that this rather highlights the problem that we typically define ourselves with reference to some part of the New Testament material and with too little regard for the narrative whole and its connection with history.

SOLDIERS REMINESCENCES
Submitted by K Prabhakar Rao on Wed, 02/27/2008 - 08:16. commitmnet coruption oath patriotismThe Officer cadet who goes for the training at the academy is clueless of his fate in years to come. Realization dawns on him soon and he slogs for years. He compares with outside world and perks, facilities etc and gets disheratened. The charm of uniform fades away soon in most of the cases. Years of transfers, instability, whims and fancies in service, confidential reports takes a toll and he whithers away slowly. But he abides by the oath that he takes . Only this oath keeps him going in uniform and nothing else. Not even money and rank.
