Fascism and Communism

It is true that Fascism is generally considered to be anti Communist. This was evident from the World War II in which Facist dictators such as Adolph Hitler of Germany and Benito Mussolini of Italy clashed with Communist nation Russia tooth and nail and very bitterly. Both in Communism and Fascism, individual liberties are highly suppressed and State’s interests are of highest priority. In fascist countries, there is a great hero worship and certain individual becomes the dictator and people are swayed by his speeches and personality and blindly follow him like a flock of sheep most willingly that are led to the butcher.

Adolph Hitler in World War II was the God sent man to the Germans and he knit the nation as one cohesive mass atlesat up to the days of victories. As quoted from A. Firey, the German Christians affirmed; “through Hitler, Christ has become mighty amongst us. Therefore National Socialism is positive Christianity” (1). Fascism thus propagates nationalism ( Could be perverted) that considers it self as God sent or divine that results in arrogance and perverted behavior and this is the hall mark of Fascism and the dictators take great advantage of this phenomenon and invariably lead their societies to disaster.

There was dissidence at the later years due to the defeats and much extended warfare involving various countries and Germany was outnumbered, outwitted and was outclassed. There were assassination attempts on Hitler and it is known widely that a professional General Rommel even admired by enemies too was targeted as the suspect and he had to end his life through poison. Probably there would not have been any dissidence had Germany went on the winning spree. In another instance Italian dictator Mussolini was executed by his countrymen. General Idi Amin of Uganda was driven out of the country.

In Fascism, entire nation is stirred with emotions that are exploited and the people are fanatically aroused who willingly and voluntarily submit to the State’s programmes that could be detrimental to other nations or to a particular section in the society. Exactly the same thing happened in Germany in World War II. Jews were massacred in scores in Germany and other places that were inspired by the leadership in Germany. Nationalism rose to its peak. When nationalism reaches its peak like high fever, human being gets into delirium and looses control over his senses of right and wrong and persecutes others. Germans were injected with virus of nationalism of being superior Aryan race in the world, while all others were inferior and the nation lost control on itself and was destroyed in a course of time. It met, subjugation, insult, loss of supremacy, humiliation, defeat and occupation by foreign powers.

However in Communism, entire population may not subscribe to the doctrine of the State. The class hatred is inspired, injected, consolidated and abetted by the Government and party and a section of society is jailed, killed, suppressed, humiliated, harassed and is forced to submit to State’s doctrine through violence, terror and subjugation. This section is always is in a state of hibernating fire in the society and throws off the regime at the best opportunity. USSR was thus disintegrated which no Communist sympathizer ever expected. People revolted in China too during Cultural Revolution during 1965-68. Scores were killed at Tien Min Square and the entire world knows about it. China is undergoing transformation and is like a volcano that is hibernating. Chinese population that toiled on bicycles, pulling carts and doing hard labor are getting used to comforts of modern luxuries and western life style and have discarded Mao’s blue coats that itself is an indication of transformation of society to a free society that may not be far off. It is a question of time.

The fascist societies do not subscribe to the philosophy of nationalization of means of production and thus they are pro capitalistic. But in the aspect of terrorization of its society who do not subscribe to their philosophy they are no different to the Communist dictators. They are prepared to commit all the inhuman crimes that Communist authoritarian rulers or Junta commit in the name of party discipline and enforcement of philosophy. Both are evils in the world with respect to the humanity, spirit and soul (2).

Religion too inspires people to become a cohesive mass many times turning fundamentalist. In the words of Sir S Radhakrishnan, “When we adopt an absolute faith we will not produce free spirits but only men and women of fanatical fervor”. “When we repudiate reason and demand faith, we play into the hands of dictators who profess to supply us with definite creeds for belief and codes for conduct” (3). People who are blinded by the religious fervor see no reason and turn into fundamentalists. They seek to enforce their philosophy by force (4). Jihadi terrorism in the world to day is the outcome of this attitude. As absolute power corrupts a man, absolute faith too turns a man into be overwhelmed by fanatical fervor, Destruction of places of worship, sculptures, icons, buildings, idols of other faiths by the a section of followers of Islam is the result of this attitude. Similarly conversion of churches into mosques while Muslims ruled and vice versa in Spain after Christian take over is also is a result of this absolute faith. Similarly destruction of places of worship and conversion of idols from Vaishnavism to Shaivism and vice versa in the medieval period in India was the result of this. Destruction of Buddhist and Jain facilities in India by Hindu fundamentalists in medieval period and destruction of Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan by Taliban in recent times is the outcome of ills of one’s absolute faith with narrow view in what he believes. Killing of Australian missionary along with his sons in Orissa State in India few years ago by Hindu fundamentalists is also the result of this ill. Thus religious fundamentalism is no different from the fascist behavior in the related aspects. Both are co- brothers and perform the dance of devil with hands clasped.. The world is now gripped in this viral fever and Jihadi terrorism is the latest ill unleashed on the world.
