LEADERSHIP

LEADERSHIP   Prof Dr Colonel (Retired) K Prabhakar Rao

Leadership is generally claimed as an art

That mostly comes out of birth

On some it is thrust by force

And they become leaders in spite of their large girth

Some are born natural leaders

And they enjoy great support

Many stalwarts go into oblivion

If they do not maintain with seniors good rapport

Even thieves and dacoits need this trait

To guide and commit effective crimes

The trait is most sought in political game

Many can not acquire even in their prime

In India every one in one family is a leader

And leadership is thrust on these reluctant souls

Some can not even speak two words effectively

And are pushed up by the clappers like chicken surrounding a fowl

Some leaders automatically draw crowds

They do not need jugglery of words

Their past and present decide their worth

It is not a must to bring hired people in large herds

Some leaders can not win a single election

When they stand on their own

They are the worthless lot in society

But get dividends when some one from a family is highly blown

Scientists are usually poor leaders

Who like to work all alone

Poets and artists also fall in this line

Leaders in this list are rarely born

In India when a leader kicks the bucket

The mantle at once goes to his son

He could be a rowdy or street thug

He  is pushed up as the rising bright sun

The trait of leadership is  different in India

Where all and sundry are in the race

Cheats and goons and criminals are in the fray

Many are unworthy of showing their face

Leadership and leaders are wierd in India...

 Dear Readers,

In India leadership has a different meaning and concept all together. Leader and leadership both appear to be different in India. This is the result of the pathetic dynasty based political system that is going on in India. Leaders are required at different levels staring from Street representatives to ward members to the top level at various stages. This may be in respect of Municipal administration or  of a political party. We do find the street rowdies donning attire and turning as leaders.  The typical attire in India for a leader is white Kurta and tight Pajama with a long hanging scarf around the neck. The scarf is usually bears the colors of  the party flag. All of a sudden she shady character does lot of bowing, wishing and waving hand. Of course there will be a cell phone in his hand and most of the time would be speaking and show off as  very busy. Such guys can not even speak few sentences correctly ( Not necessarily in English). They are not even proficient in their own mother tongue. No sentence will be completed without adding an abuse or unparliamentarily word. The level of leaders at different levels is same with varying degrees of freedom. The recent shouting of Chiefminsters and ministers and opposition party  legislators  using foul words itself is the indication of quality of leaders. This is different from leadership.                    In India  when a legislator  suddenly dies while  in position, the succession generally is very easy. The ticket is govern to the bereaved family even if the candidates is  worthless  to the post of a legislator.  Sons of some   legislators who passed away are apology  as police cases were earlier registered for rioting and attempt to murder. Here the requirement is not the leadership qualities. It is  dynastic succession. Indians are crazy for dynastic succession and vote for the candidates based on sympathy factor. Some times even opposition parties too collaborate by not fielding their candidate. Such guys when elected are only ceremonial idols for processions. They raise their hands in legislatures on various issue and bills and discussions. There is no quality of leadership. The notorious rowdy suddenly becomes a leader moving in cars with security and granted admission by the Chief Minister easily.    Next comes the family rule at top. Here each and every one is the forced leader to (irrespective of leadership qualities) climb into the golden throne of India, because he was born in the family. The only criteria to rule India is to having been born in the family.  The guy who has not seen the world of politics, service to people, with no communication skills is projected by the all sycophants is forced into the chair and he  soon  he gets used to this.  The coteries around him occupy the senior posts and enjoy the fruits of power endlessly. In such parties no other guy can become a PMi. It is not thinkable.    There is a small hitch in this. The women members are kept away if she chooses to be at cross with the family head. Many senior stalwarts waited life long and developed warts, grew bald and dim while many passed into history. Most of the people are not worth to be remembered and no one knows them after a year or two. Thus leadership and leaders have to define in different ways in India context. This is because the electorate is immature, crazy for past glory and dynstic rule and follows multi party system with no restrictions on number of terms he can hold the office. Parliament will never bring legislation because it suits them well. Every PM in India wanted or wants to rule till he dies and then he wants his son or daughter or grand son to rule. There could be some exceptions. Therefore by and large the terms leadership and leaders have to be viewed differently from sane nations. The same should be taught in mamagement Institutions.
