Pseudo secularism

Prof Dr Colonel (Retired) K Prabhakar Rao

India declared itself as the secular country at the time of independence and Muslims were given option to stay back or leave for Pakistan. Many have migrated and scores remained. But fact is that Muslim league was given more than 90 % votes at the time of granting independence that advocated partition of the country. Consequently India was partitioned. At the time of independence, Sardar (Leader) Patel, the former Deputy Prime Minister of India Stated that Muslims were free to migrate from India and if they choose to remain could not have dual loyalties. What he anticipated in 1947 happened soon. Patel is no more. His prophecy has become true. Muslims after partition mostly withdrew from the main stream and confined themselves into groups and identified with their religion than with the country. Every aspect was being linked to the religion (1). No doubt they felt at risk in majority India. The successive governments too followed appeasement policies to gain confidence of Muslim voters and this has resulted in a feeling that they have some special status in India and are required to be pampered. There were many communal riots in India at many places including Hyderabad. A section of Muslims openly supported Pakistan on all maters and Middle East than India. There were saner Muslims. But their voice was not heard. No one ventured to speak against the fundamentalists. The partition has driven permanent wedge between both the communities and fear of mistrust has become permanent in India. The assassination of MK Gandhi in 1948 itself was the outcome of severe dissatisfaction over his Muslim appeasement policies during the freedom struggle and partition of the country that it permanent damage to the nation. The Government continues the policy of appeasement and result is that Islamic terrorism has taken permanent roots in the country. Kashmir is threatened. Some even raised formation of Mughalistan in Uttar Pradesh areas (2). Government even hesitated to take action agsint the Muslim legislators who were responsible during the attacks on Tasleema Nasreen (3) and doctors at the hospitals in Hyderabad recently (4). All these incidents go to prove that pseudo secularism no doubt is practiced in the country. This article narrates the aspect of pseudo secularism in the form of English poems (5).

PSEUDO SECULARISM

On the day of freedom India chose to be a secular state

Alas! It has landed itself on a burning fire grate

Sixty long years of freedom have been frittered away

While the nation is lost in seeking a proper and saner way

Muslims chose to be a separate nation

And ditched their brothers at the railway station

Scores of Muslims have stayed back

Unable to go out with rest of the pack

The left out Muslims feel discriminated in India

They voice their feelings also in the media

These men have withdrawn from the national main stream

While some fanatics shout and loudly scream

Muslims are pampered by leaders for the vote banks

They are found to huddle in a group and close their ranks

Religion keeps the flock together well knit

Law of the land is scared to use its writ

The nation has tampered with Hindu codes

And law applies vigorously to Hindu nodes

It has failed to discipline others in the land

While the leaders have been playing to their subversive band

A secular state must have uniform civil code

Irrespective of the religions and their node

Religion has to be practiced within four walls

And not to be shown on roads and in public function halls

Rulers have no response to Hindu sentiments

For others however they dish out increments

Hindus in India feel they have been let down by the rulers

While leaders have proved to be great corruption breeders

Muslims in office are spared to pray

Although Hindu’s requests are confined to a tray

Pseudo secularism has ruined the nation

And to talk of secularism is today’s fashion

The followers can have four wives

Even if they can’t maintain being a fact of lives

Rulers are scared of minority backlash

With Hindus however they behave very rash

Pseudo secularism has put all in deep trouble

The nation has been turned into a heap of rubble

The leaders devoid of wisdom are taking things cool

While Hindus are treated as a pack of fools

The gimmick has gone for sixty long years

Hindu sentiments are washed out in tears

The Hindu revival is at last up in arms

While corrupt at the top are busy acquiring money and private farms

Indian policies have led to Hindu backlash

And leaders treat it as a mere trash

The nation stands on the brink of holocaust

While in Kashmir thugs are killing Hindus in bomb blasts

Muslims should realize that they have chosen to stay

While Hindus also stay away from creating a fuss

Mutual hatred must at once go

Or else the nation would disappear like the bird DODO@

( @ Australian duck looking land bird DODO which became extinct )

Let not the nation play the minority card

Or else many would land up in a hospital ward

For Indians nation should come always first

While religion should be pushed to the last

Muslims have volunteered to stay always here

Although they could migrate if so desired

It is high time they mingle with all

And reject the fanatics who would cause their fall

Scores of temples in Kashmir lay shattered

As militants in the state got them battered

Rulers have turned a Nelson’s eye

With their minds covered in black hair dye

Finest temples across the land

Lay badly damaged by the invading bands

The defaced idols stand testimony to the sinful acts

While the pseudo secularists fail to see the naked facts

The last great Mughal* dreamt of India of Muslims

However he died dejected getting pale and slim

Foolish acts gave the king some thrills

As Hindus to day condemn his ills

(* Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor who ruled in 17 century)

The wounds in Hindu hearts are still fresh

With partition these were opened afresh

It is high time Muslims get rid off their germs

As they opted to live in India on equal terms

Both Muslims and Hindus must forget the past

And not drag things to the last

They must start afresh for healthy lives

And stay happy with their kids and wives

No religion preaches hared to others

All are born in the same way from the mothers

Then why this mistrust and hate campaign

Truth however is simple and plain

Noblest Sufis have lived in India from ages

Who preached toleration recorded in history’s pages

Hindu sages have gone on many records

To shed down the evil and mutual discord

No religion is cruel and bad

It is only the people’s fad

That they look at others with yellow eyes

With their minds covered with colored dyes

The present trouble in India is to be put down

Fomented by some dangerous crazy and selfish clowns

Hindus and Muslims must form both eyes of the nation

Like railway tracks are together at every railway station
