The Iran problem is again making rounds with saber rattling by every one. Iran that is feverishly pursuing its quest for nuclear status has recently fired few Long Range Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (LRBM) that has potential to seek American targets at different locations around the world and is viewed as a direct threat to American ally Israel (1). The show of strength came three days after U.S.-led warships finished naval exercises in the Gulf that Iran branded as "adventurist” Iran remains locked in dispute with the West over its nuclear program, which Washington says is geared to producing atomic weapons but Tehran says is only for generating electricity. Iran’s state-run media reported that one of them was a modified Shahab-3 ballistic missile, which has a claimed range of 1,250 miles and could theoretically deliver a one-ton nuclear warhead over Israeli cities. Tel Aviv is about 650 miles from western Iran. General Hossein Salami, a senior Revolutionary Guard commander, boasted that “our hands are always on the trigger and our missiles are ready for launch”.............

The world is engulfed with speculation that America would soon attack Iran to prevent it from going nuclear. Iran has been resisting all international pressures and sanctions against it. Western block no doubt is pressurizing Iran while nations like Russia and China are sympathetic to Iran and some are playing cat on the wall game. Stalemate continues while rumors abound about the preparations for the attack by USA and Israel. Many predict that the attack would be very devastating high intensity air warfare by simultaneous bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites along with its military establishments, missile sites and many other strategic locations to cripple the nation. Use of bunker busters is foreseen. The attack is expected to last for limited time and expectations are that it could vary for a day to a week. No ground invasion is foreseen in near future unless warranted. It is expected that such large scale very high intensity bombardment would cripple Iran for at least next 15 years. It is also expected that Iran subsequently would not be able to retaliate even against Israel with its much publicized missiles. It might activate Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israel is capable of dealing with Hezbollah in a proper way. All are keeping their fingers crossed (1) (2) (3). continue reading "Iran Has Some Hope With United States' Intellegence Roport on Nukes"

Recently Iranian President Ahmed inejad has declared that Iran has reached a mile stone in its nuclear programme (1). What is the mile stone he meant? This was not spelled out and left others guessing. Iran has been actively pursuing its nuclear program in spite of opposition by world countries (Mostly west) spearheaded by America. It has stubbornly resisted all pressures till date. It is being claimed by west that the Iranian program is aimed at acquiring nuclear potential with the aim of building nuclear weapons. Iran however claims that the program is aimed at building know how for power plants (2). The impending nuclear potential by Iran is seen as the greatest threat to world peace and particularly to existence of Jewish State Israel in view of the statement made by the president Ahmed inejad that he would erase Israel from the world map by dropping the nuclear bomb on it once it acquires it (3). Israel being the closest ally of USA, Iran is being considered as the greatest threat to Israel. On the other hand relations between Iran and America are severely strained after the take over by fundamentalist Mullahs and dethroning of Shah Pehalwi in Iran in 1979. In fact Iran celebrates the American hostage crisis as some sort of victory with parades, shouting slogans, “Death to America” wielding weapons and goose stepping too. It displays erstwhile highly dangerous Nazi type tempo in its anti American parades that could bring disaster to their own country as it happened to Germany. History could repeat. continue reading "Will Israel Go Alone Against Iran?"

Kurds are demanding a separate nation called Kurdistan. They are distributed in Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran. Kurds live in the mountainous region of the Middle East where the borders of Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran meet. There are an estimated 20-25 million Kurds throughout the Middle East. The Kurds have always been a stateless people. It is concentrated in the parts of eastern Turkey, Syria, Iran, and Iraq that make up the region known as Kurdistan that does not have any national status as a country. Kurds are distinct from the Arabs, Turks, and Persians (Iranians) of their region, but are ethnically and linguistically closest to Persians. Kurdish origins are commonly traced back to the Empire of the Medes in the sixth century BC. About 12 million Kurds live in the southeast region of Turkey alone. Twenty percent of Turkey's population is Kurdish. Iraq is 15-20 percent Kurdish; Syria, less than 10 percent; and Iran, 7 percent. The majority of Kurds is devout Sunni Muslims (1). . continue reading "Turkey's Offensive Against Kurds Would Disturb Already Complex Middle East"

Middle East politics are replete with rivalries, sectarian conflicts, mutual hatred and ethnic struggles that transform into terrorism causing great human suffering. Struggle between Turkey and problem of Kurds is a live example that has contributed to destabilization of the region and conflicts in neighboring countries such as Iraq, Iran and Syria too apart from Turkey. Guerilla war now has been clubbed with terrorism globally and both have become synonymous although they are distinct from each other. The name “Kurd” was a generic term used to denote nomads and non-Arabs in particular. In Kurdish, the name “Kurd” means “warrior” or “ferocious fighter.” By the time of the Islamic conquest of the northern Middle East in the 7th century AD, the name “Kurd” was already in use as a term to designate the population of Western Iranians in the Zagros Mountains. continue reading "Turkey Struggles With Terrorism by Kurds"

USA today is going through a difficult and complex phase of involvement in conflicts in the world against determined terrorist onslaught who declared war against it. USA has always been the leader and beacon of light for liberty and freedom in the world. Hordes of freedom fighters who were persecuted in their native countries found asylum in America. Some of these organizations at a later date took advantage and plotted against the country. The present conflict with AlQaeda of Bin Laden Group is an example. The nation has evolved out of bitter struggle for liberty from the clutches of England after a war with the Englishmen. Since then, it has maintained a high profile and a special position in the world where every one looked at it with reverence, for inspiration and guidance. After Industrial revolution, America progressed rapidly on technological and industrial front and grew into a major world power in all aspects. It played key and decisive roles in the World War I and World War II. With acquisition of Nuclear weapon it attained the position of super power. It stood for liberty and democracy and automatically it got involved in cold war with the communist block after the Korean War. It has shown great restraint during Korean War and did not attack mainland of China inspite of great provocation (1). The war was limited to use of conventional weapons. continue reading "Will America Withdraw Into a Cocoon?"

The euphoria of inevitable bombing of Iran appears to be reduced or subsided. US was in the advanced stage of planning for intensive bombing of Iran, a process that began in 2006 as per a report. This was revealed by distinguished writer Seymour Hersh writing in New York magazine. As per him, a special planning group was established in the offices of Joint Chiefs of Staff charged with contingency bombing plan for Iran that can be implemented with in 24 hours, once the word ‘Go’ comes from the President. continue reading "Conflict With Iran...Rumblings"

There is a great speculation in the world that that USA would soon strike Iran with the aim of destroying its potential to build nuclear weapons and to seek a regime change. It is believed that once invincibility of the Mullahs is blown apart, the regime would collapse like pack of cards where saner and democratic elements would soon emerge on the scene. America on several occasions in the past has made it clear that military option against Iran has not been ruled out. It has also been reported that there is a great American naval build up in the Gulf that is considered as prelude to the inevitable western initial missile strikes for softening against Iran in very near future. Some are of opinion that US troops are already on the soil of Iran while it is also being claimed that US is conducting attacks on Iran through Iraqi ground forces in clandestine manner (1) (2). Thus, many are of the opinion that the war has already started although open hostilities are yet to surface. Middle East is on the brink of war and is the biggest hot bed of confrontation for attaining supremacy in the region. continue reading "Is the USA Already at War With Iran?"

The position of women in Iran during the rule of Shah Pehalwi I was more modern along the western lines and every one thought that the country was on Turkish way with Western type governing. However with rise of Mullahs and unleashing fundamentalist and medieval regime in 1979 driving the nation back to the conceptual days of founding of Islam, hardships have been heaped on the women in Iran in the name of religious values, Shariat and traditions of Islam. Khomeni government seemed intent on making women revolve around rearing true men. The constitution of Islamic republic made men and women equal before law as far as Shariat allowed. The most important restrictions were inability to divorce and lack of credibility to women’s testimony in a court of law. One mans testimony was accepted in the trial of a murder while testimony from two women were required to be accepted. Age for consent for marriage was lowered from 15 to 13 years. Contraception and abortion were also banned. continue reading "Persecution of Women in Iran"

Iran is very important and ancient nation with great culture in the Gulf region and was called Persia in earlier days. It has very important neighbors such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Iraq and former southern Soviet States and across the Gulf straits has important Muslim States such as Saudi Arabia and Emirates. It has a common border with Pakistan near Sistan-Baluchestan. With elimination of Saddam Hussein it has emerged as a very strong power in the region and its nuclear program is considered by the world as prelude to making a nuclear weapon. President Mahmoud inejad has already gone on record that he would destroy Israel after acquiring the nuclear bomb (1). This statement has greatly alarmed the entire world particularly west. All is not well within Iran. Dissidence has also grown in Iran after the overthrow of the modern and Western styled regime of Shah Pehalwi I of Iran by the fundamentalist Mullahs in 1979. Many Iranians who were forward thinking and pro Pehalwi left Iran to other countries. It is reported and alleged by Iran that a group known as Jundullah (Army of God), a Sunni militant terrorist organization in terms of Iran and made up of members of the fear-some Baluchi tribe in Pakistan , has been secretly encouraged and advised by American officials since 2005, as it has carried out its deadly operations inside Iran. continue reading "Iran Too, Is Fighting Terrorists On Its Soil"
