IS IT A MUST TO APPEASE GOD WITH OFFERINGS

In all societies across the world and in various religions offerings are made to the God. Is it for appeasing him or as a sense of gratitude? Some do it as ritual while do it expecting some benefit. Does the God accept these offerings? Can he be influenced by such offerings? Will he make judgment by taking these into account? Such questions need answering.

God, Jesus and Christianity

All the Christians believe in the God. God exists outside the universe that he created. Humans are made in the image of god. God has no variations while humans are varied in appearance, conduct and thinking. God is spiritual while humans are in possession of physical existence. Humans can think and decide what is good and bad and are capable of taking decisions accordingly. All world religions believe in God in some way or other. In certain religions, God is seen as entirely independent while others view God and world as one. These two are the two extreme assumptions and beliefs.

SITTING DUCK... ARJUN THE BATTLE TANK

The development of Main Battle Tank (MBT) for Indian armored Corps by Indian scientists was taken up by CVRDE at Madras ( Now Chennai) that is a part of DRDO. Way back in seventies, the project MBT 80 was taken up. Guys were trying to develop own engine for the future MBT, the inevitable sitting duck. In those days, there was a craze for Variable Compression Ratio (VCR) Diesel Engine, popular in American usage and Tank development. In this design, the compression ratio could be changed while the engine was running by pumping high pressure oil into piston that was made of two sliding parts, one within other. Once the fluid is forced in to the chamber, upper sliding piston moves up and gets locked and reduces the clearance volume and there by increases compression ratio. However the sealing and other allied arrangements should be sophisticated and Indian expertise in those days was definitely debatable and to be precise was utterly lacking. After struggling for much of the time at Madras by the Research organization of Govt India, I think they came out with a model proto type probably in 1970 aimed to produce 1500 BHP. This engine could just produce power that was just sufficient to keep it moving by itself overcoming its internal friction. I am sure the engine would have struggled and stopped if the fly wheel was touched with the hand (Meaning an additional light load). Rest of the balance power probably was interpolated and predicted using various performance curves and claimed that it would produce (bla…bla…bla…). There was no actual power development and brake power testing to the required power. It was the theoretical prediction. The seals in piston gave serious trouble. The Project died its own death and God saved India.   I am sure the project of the beleaguered design was abandoned. My question is, “Why try to design some thing that is beyond one’s capability?” In India, for some crazy guys there are many fancies.

Love and forgiveness are complimentary

Love and forgiveness are complimentary and cannot be separated from each other. We invariably forgive those whom we love. We also do not forgive those whom we hate and do not like. But is this correct? Lord Jesus has preached that one must love and forgive even enemies. He practiced what he preached. This is evident from his famous utterance when he was crucified on the cross. He said “ Oh father forgive these. They do not know what they are doing” ( Luke 23:34 CEV.) (1). But how many of us can emulate him? Think of Sept 9/11. Americans went hammer and tong against AlQaeda worldwide after the uncalled sadistic bombings on US main land at New York. President George W Bush declared” I want Osama Bin Laden dead or alive”. However President George W Bush recently declared that this was a mistake and he should not have said these words that alienated Muslim world from America . Mr Bush said, “ Well I said dead or alive after Sept the 11 th. It is an unfortunate statement I made. But inherent in the statement is our desire to bring him to justice” (2). Past is past. It cannot be undone anyhow. But fact is that Americans have not forgiven the terrorists although Gospel preaches to do so. Thus we find that in practical life, we come across many situations where it is not possible to follow the Gospel in true spirit. In India MK Gandhi was shot and killed by Nathuram Godse in 1948. Godse was tried and hanged at gallows. There was no forgiving. There was no reduction of sentence to life imprisonment. People craved (A section) for Godse’s blood. Probably many felt that it was a revengeful hanging by the Government that was led to power by MK Gandhi. King Czar and his family were shot dead by the communists after great revolution in Czarist Russia in last century. There was no pardon for the czar. They were just cold blood murders. True. Communists do not believe in Christianity or any other religion. Murder was a fair play for them as a part of revolution. But it is claime that Christian world has not taken note of section Luke 23:34 in true spirit of preaching and practice. .....................

CRAZE OF AWARDS

Indians are crazy of awards and great lobbying goes on for these awards. Bharat Ratna is the highest national award in India and is given to very distinguished persons.Of late this award has become a controversy as all and sundry are aspiring for it.

Normal politicians who change their colors like Lizards are also claiming and lobbying for the award. In fact political leaders are resorting to all manipulations to get these awards. During British rule the Englishmen bought the loyalty of landed gentry by awarding title such as Rao Bahadur, Diwan Bahadur, Sir, Raja Bahadur etc. After gaining freedom these titles were abolished but were replaced by Padma awards. It is new wine in old bottles. Same rat race goes on. Lot of heart burning is noticed in India. Lobbying is going on for getting awards for men like Vajpayee, Karunaanidhi, Mulayam singh and Kanshiram. On the other hand army guys are after Seva medals which replaced British titles such as Distinguished Service Order etc. Only God knows the truth behind the award. Every General is given the award such as AVSM, PVSM, or at least one of these. Many deserving candidates vanish into history without any recognition because time, place and relations matter a lot in services. No heart burn. A simple fact of life. Why awards at all? They are doing the duty to their best and it is their duty. The awards result in rat race, cut throat situation, back biting, digging graves from behind, sycophancy in services. Many are of the view that the awards should be abolished because they are mismanaged.

Knowledge as Path to Truth

The four Yogas recommended by Hindu scriptures for attainment of truth are Bhakti (devotion or worship) yoga, Jnana (Knowledge) Yoga and Raja (analysis of mind)) Yoga and Karma Yoga (action). What is yoga? Yoga means “to join”, i.e. to join human soul with the supreme soul that is termed as God. Most of the times, people identify yoga with some sort of meditation involving concentration of mind being off from the outside world. It is also identified with acts of abstaining from human reflexes and breathe control. But this is not entirely so. Yoga touches man at every level, physical, mental and spiritual. It is a practical method of making ones life noble, purposeful and useful. It is generally believed that yoga is more practical of all the applied sciences and is more beneficial to mankind under all conditions and circumstances. This method is truly for the rationalists. While Bhakti Marga or devotional path seeks union with supreme by love and devotion, a Jnana yogi pursues union with supreme by power of reason.

War and Religious Faith

The religions preach non violence ( However some claim that Islam preaches violence in the form of Jihad), compassion, love and peace among human beings world wide. But tragically, the human societies do exactly opposite of this and are at each others throats most of the times. What is wrong with these societies? Why they fight each other? Why they can not see reason and stop fighting? Does religion sanctify wars? These are some of the intricate questions to be answered.
