Love and forgiveness are complimentary

Love and forgiveness are complimentary and cannot be separated from each other. We invariably forgive those whom we love. We also do not forgive those whom we hate and do not like. But is this correct? Lord Jesus has preached that one must love and forgive even enemies. He practiced what he preached. This is evident from his famous utterance when he was crucified on the cross. He said “ Oh father forgive these. They do not know what they are doing” ( Luke 23:34 CEV.) (1). But how many of us can emulate him? Think of Sept 9/11. Americans went hammer and tong against AlQaeda worldwide after the uncalled sadistic bombings on US main land at New York. President George W Bush declared” I want Osama Bin Laden dead or alive”. However President George W Bush recently declared that this was a mistake and he should not have said these words that alienated Muslim world from America . Mr Bush said, “ Well I said dead or alive after Sept the 11 th. It is an unfortunate statement I made. But inherent in the statement is our desire to bring him to justice” (2). Past is past. It cannot be undone anyhow. But fact is that Americans have not forgiven the terrorists although Gospel preaches to do so. Thus we find that in practical life, we come across many situations where it is not possible to follow the Gospel in true spirit. In India MK Gandhi was shot and killed by Nathuram Godse in 1948. Godse was tried and hanged at gallows. There was no forgiving. There was no reduction of sentence to life imprisonment. People craved (A section) for Godse’s blood. Probably many felt that it was a revengeful hanging by the Government that was led to power by MK Gandhi. King Czar and his family were shot dead by the communists after great revolution in Czarist Russia in last century. There was no pardon for the czar. They were just cold blood murders. True. Communists do not believe in Christianity or any other religion. Murder was a fair play for them as a part of revolution. But it is claime that Christian world has not taken note of section Luke 23:34 in true spirit of preaching and practice. .....................

GLORFICATION

All uniformed services want to glorify themselves. The outside society is much misinformed about these services and harbor very high opinions. Image building is a must. After every war many movies come out. After World War II, many action movies were released such as Pearl harbor, Battle of Bulge, Bridge on the river quoi and many more. The valor of the soldiers was highly glorified. In India too, many action movies were made glorifying army and the heroes. Pictures like Haqueekat ( Facts ), Ham Dono ( We too) were the movies with army back ground released many years ago. Then came recent action movies where young army officers are glorified by actions and patriotic fervor. Similarly police films are also made with a stubborn and honest police man. Most of them are IPS men or women who single handedly fights all goons and the political leadership in the country. The guy or woman with a 9 mm magazine pistol (browning) kills scores without reloading and never misses the mark. The woman police officer kills all goons and single handedly fights scores of musclemen. Foolish Indians seek pleasures out of this mockery called Indian films.

Is Renunciation Essential to Know Truth?

An important aspect in the world religions is the aspect of renunciation. Most of religions and the Peers propagated that complete physical renunciation is not necessary and neither it is essential to attain truth. Persons such as Prophet Mohammed ( PBUH), Guru Nanak( Sikhism), lived family lives, They were married and had children. Lord Krishna who is considered as the manifestation of Lord Vishnu was married and led a normal life lie any one although he was the most illustrious and the prophet and very widely revered by a large section of humanity. When we use the word truth, it also means, Brahman, self knowledge, bliss, salvation, Nirvana, union with God and similar terms. However we also find that all the prophets who came down on to the earth were illuminated only when they left everything, wandered or went into seclusion away from the society. Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) was only Mohammed when he stayed with his family. He became a Nabi only when he went into seclusion in the cave at Mecca and got revelation from Allah. Lord Jesus got realization when he went into oblivion in the younger days and returned illuminated. Lord Buddha (Siddhartha) renounced the world and finally attained truth and became a Buddha at Gaya. Guru Nanak of Sikhism too realized truth when he went away from his house for few days. This indicates that knowledge was revealed to these great men only when they went away from the family and were in the state of renunciation (1).

CRAZE OF AWARDS

Indians are crazy of awards and great lobbying goes on for these awards. Bharat Ratna is the highest national award in India and is given to very distinguished persons.Of late this award has become a controversy as all and sundry are aspiring for it.

Normal politicians who change their colors like Lizards are also claiming and lobbying for the award. In fact political leaders are resorting to all manipulations to get these awards. During British rule the Englishmen bought the loyalty of landed gentry by awarding title such as Rao Bahadur, Diwan Bahadur, Sir, Raja Bahadur etc. After gaining freedom these titles were abolished but were replaced by Padma awards. It is new wine in old bottles. Same rat race goes on. Lot of heart burning is noticed in India. Lobbying is going on for getting awards for men like Vajpayee, Karunaanidhi, Mulayam singh and Kanshiram. On the other hand army guys are after Seva medals which replaced British titles such as Distinguished Service Order etc. Only God knows the truth behind the award. Every General is given the award such as AVSM, PVSM, or at least one of these. Many deserving candidates vanish into history without any recognition because time, place and relations matter a lot in services. No heart burn. A simple fact of life. Why awards at all? They are doing the duty to their best and it is their duty. The awards result in rat race, cut throat situation, back biting, digging graves from behind, sycophancy in services. Many are of the view that the awards should be abolished because they are mismanaged.

Religion and Nonviolence

When the word non-violence is spoken, people, at least in India quickly remember and recollect Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi ((1868-1948) of India (Known as Father of Indian Nation and also has been given title Mahatma meaning great soul) who lived on the earth very recently during last century. He was shot dead by Nathuram Vinayak Godse of Hindu Maha Sabha (A nationalist Organization) at Delhi in cold blood on 30 January 1948 subsequent to partition of Indian sub continent by the British government in 1947. Violence scored over non violence at that instant. It is widely believed by a very large section of Indian society that the Indian sub continent was partitioned as a result of non violence policy and appeasement of Muslims of MK Gandhi. The killing of MK Gandhi was the result of such feelings and rise of passions immediately after partition and the communal holocaust in which countless people perished.

Jealousy Causes Man's Downfall

Man in his journey on the earth encounters many challenges. One of the most important aspects that he faces in the world is comparison with others. He compares himself with another human being. As the society grew in civilization, man’s wants have also increased. His capabilities to produce and innovate also grew. Craving for material goods and comforts have also increased by leaps and bounds and shot up without any limits. The standard of living has increased and this is varied in each society and in each country. Ease of travel, communications and television has entirely transformed the life on earth. Comparison in a man’s life never ceases. At every stage, there is always some one above or below in all walks of life. Comparison could be in educational achievements, wealth, and materialistic possessions, status in office and society and even spiritual achievements (1). Comparison gives rise to unhappiness and leads to jealousy. Jealousy leads to hatred and even bitterness on failures and inability to match or exceed the contender. The religions have identified vices such as anger, jealousy, passion (lust), arrogance and miserliness that torment mankind. All religions preach love and compassion towards others, fellow beings and even animals and birds and other living beings (Buddhism and Jainism). Love and compassion can not be exhibited if a person is a victim of jealousy and hatred (as an outcome of jealousy). Thus jealousy becomes paramount trait in human beings. How one should overcome it? Is it possible? Or, one has to suffer? Christian teachings and Holy revered Bible is a store of knowledge on love and compassion. These aspects have been given very great importance in these religious scriptures. Entire life of Lord Jesus is a saga of love and compassion and sacrifice. Other examples are Lord Buddha and Guru Nanak. They practiced what they preached. These great prophets never spoke any offensive word towards others in their lives and thus can be truly associated as apostles of peace. It however does not mean that others are no way less.

You may have noticed how everything seems to be speeding up. The changes that used to take 20 years now rip through in a single year. Last year’s cutting edge gadget is now pretty much obsolete, like my three year old computer.

Remember 78’s, 8-track, cassettes, 35 mm cameras,VHS, MS DOS, 640k limit on computer memory? Creation is happening more and more swiftly, giving the illusion that time is speeding up.

God Men: Holy Men in the Path of the Pursuit of God

The greatest spiritual men in the world have reached the status of divine men only when they completely submitted themselves to the God and freed themselves from the family bonds. They were only ordinary men as long as they remained within the frame work of worldly affairs. Gautama Buddha was known as prince Siddhartha as long as he stayed in the comforts of palace at Kapilavastu in India. He renounced his family including young wife Yasodhara and a small child Rahul and spent years in the search of truth and finally he attained realization under Bodhi tree in Gaya. He was called Buddha from then onwards and is being worshipped as God. Hindu mythology has granted him the status of 9 th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) remained Mohammed as long as he stayed with his family and became Nabi only when he visited the cave near Mecca regularly and when submitted himself completely to Allah and realized the truth. Jesus was an ordinary boy and person till he left the parents, house and submitted himself to the God during his absence from 13-27 years about which the scriptures are silent. Some scholars claim that he visited India and came in contact with Buddhism that made impact on him and these are reflected in his teachings. Then onwards He was known son of the God and rest is history. Sankara was only a learned boy as long as he remained with his mother in a village in Kerala , an Indian southern state and he was known as the Holy Sankaracharya (Acharya means great teacher) only after he renounced the world and submitted himself to the God completely. Thus we see that great men such as Prophets attained their status only when they submitted themselves completely to the God. Things were not different for Nanak who found Sikhism (1).
