The Sunni Bomb
Prof Dr Colonel (Retired) K Prabhakar Rao
Iran is feverishly pursuing its nuclear programme claiming that it is meant for peaceful purpose such as power generation. The world community and the international Institutions have been putting great pressures on Iran to abandon its pursuit of nuclear programme. On the other front, Iran on Sunday April, 15, 2007 announced plans to build two more nuclear plants despite international pressures to curb its controversial nuclear programme. The plants would be light-water reactors, each with capacity to generate up to 1600 MW of electricity (1). The clergy and mullah dominated, inspired and backed Iranian fundamentalist Government till date has not paid any attention to the international advice and continues to pursue its quest for acquiring the nuclear know how (2). Some critics in third world countries ask, “Why a sovereign State like Iran can not pursue its nuclear programme? The answer is, “Yes, it can do. But not when it declares that it would wipe off another country by dropping the bomb”. The critics act as if they have not heard the answer and turn the face away. Although Iran declared that it was for peaceful purpose, its real attentions are of great suspect and things have been complicated with declaration by its President Mahmoud inejad that it would destroy Israel by dropping a nuclear bomb on it once it acquires the weapon and wipe it off the earth (3).
This no doubt was a reckless and highly offensive statement from a Head of a sovereign State and this has caused great concern among Western States, Israel and United States of America. More over, there was no relenting on the part of Iranian President after making such irresponsible and provocative Statement. The hatred to Jews has been compared to Adolph Hitler of Germany who put millions of Jews to death in Germany and occupied countries during World War II. President Mahmoud inejad obviously is seen in comparison to the Fuehrer of Germany in this context. USA the super power is spearheading the efforts to prevent Iran from going nuclear. As stated, great international pressures are being built against Iran in the form of sanctions. The problem is precariously balanced as Iran is refusing to accept the demands while USA is weighing the wisdom of going militarily against Iran, the option of which has not been ruled out (4).
Israel is highly concerned with the Iranian threat that is most dangerous in its history as its existence is at stake. Probably, they are gearing themselves to face the situation and independent preemptive operation is not ruled out. The question is whether West would be able to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. If it fails like in the case of North Korea going nuclear, what are the future options? Will west be under constant black mail by Iran? Iran is a Shiite country and the eternal feud between Shia and Sunni sects is well known to all in the world where each sect is blood thirsty and grappling at others throat. If Iran goes nuclear, it would acquire a Shia bomb soon and obviously blackmail others in no time. The situation would be akin to a stone in an insane and lunatic hand (5). The Sunnis in the West obviously would clamor for acquiring a nuclear bomb at the earliest and thus this would initiate great arms race in the region for acquiring nuclear weapons and its delivery systems. Soon, there would be a rushing to project a Sunni Bomb. How they would get the know how? It is generally perceived that Pakistan as a nuclear State has not been able to prevent theft of its nuclear technology to the rogue States. Late Dr Khan the ace scientist of Pakistan has already sold the secrets to these rogue States and consequently countries such as North Korea produced its Bomb while Iran is feverishly struggling to acquire one. Pakistan although is an ally of USA can not be trusted on this account as a responsible State and there is a great danger of emerging of Sunni Bomb in the world.
Obviously President George Bush has reportedly expressed fear that if Shia Iran acquires nuclear weapons, the west Asian countries might turn to nuclear armed Pakistan for help to create a Sunni Bomb. Officials from 21 governments in and around west Asia warned at a meeting of Arab leaders in March that Tehran’s drive for atomic technology could result in the beginning of a grave and destructive nuclear arms race in the region. Although Saudi Arabia earlier has reportedly stated that it did not foresee the requirements of nuclear technology and weapons, the present situation has driven them scrambling for atomic hardware and atomic consultants and contractors. It has been reported that Turkey is preparing for its first atomic plant while Egypt has announced to build one. Nearly 12 countries have turned to IAEA for help in starting their own nuclear programmes. Although they claim that the rush for the technology is for energy generation, the claims are of suspect and the real intentions are to build a bomb subsequently to counter Iranian or Shia threat (6). Thus a grave question arises today. How to prevent Iran acquiring the nuclear technology?
Third world countries who are mostly anti west (rather Anti American) and Pro Arab and Muslim clamor for a dialogue with Iran to lead them away from their pursuit of nuclear technology. Although this is most welcome, no fruitful results have come out over efforts in this direction. USA and Iran are unfortunately at loggerheads since the Iranian revolution and the hostage crisis of 1979. Since 1979, Iran has been declaring death to America and spewing venom against it. It has been pursuing a policy of Fascist revival similar to Hitler’s Nazi Germany inspiring American hatred. Iran has been abetting Shiite resistance and suicide bombings in Iraq against the American troops and Iraqi army personnel. The Shiite terrorists are being trained, armed and quartered by Iran from behind the scene. Iran’s role in building up Hezbollah in Lebanon is well established and it has been responsible for last years conflict with Israel in which Lebanon suffered very greatly in terms of infrastructural damage (7). The involvement of USA in Iraq is being prolonged due to the sectarian conflicts and this is attributed to Iran’s clandestine involvement in Iraq. Iraq can be peaceful only when Iran is contained. This is a serious bottleneck in the success of any dialogue between Iran and USA. Therefore, Military option against Iran has not been ruled out and necessary hints have already been made in the past in this direction by the US authorities and strategists. The situation is very grave rather and is at the brink of explosion at any moment.
Sunni Bomb which is rather an Islamic Bomb stares around the corner and if this happens, the world would be sitting on a volcano with two highly differing and conflicting Islamic sects with mutual hatred, grinding their teeth and craving for the blood of each other and ready to destroy each other. In the process, they would engulf the humanity and lead to greatest disaster. This has to be prevented at all costs by war if peaceful means do not bear results. Time and tide wait for no man. In the words of President George W Bush, Wars have to be fought to establish peace. Sooner the better.

bombs galore... Peace
Dear Readers,
Some people ask why Iran out of all the guys should not have nuclear capability? Yes, They can have too. But not when they declare that they would destroy another country once the get it. Iran declared that it would wipe off Israel from face of the earth. Do we accept such insane statements from a responsible President of a country? Definitely not. Some also argue that if Iran has a bomb and drops on a country, the other European powers would automatically combine and destroy entire Iran within no time. They argue that thus there will not be much threat from Iran that also knows the consequences of such actions. Can we work on such presumptions?. A smart nation would always monitor enemy intentions and take preemptive actions to safeguard its security. Israel is a small nation. A single bomb or two will not destroy entire country. But a first strike can seriously cripple capabilities and morale of Israel. A big country like USA, France, Germany etc can withstand many nuclear strikes and they survive.Other attacking country shall not see light of the day. Iran is the greatest threat to Israel. Therefore it should not have a bomb or capability to build one.It has lost its moral right for its possession after declaring its intentions.

Awaiting Day of judgement... Bombs galore
Dear readers,
Every one is trying to acquire the coveted Bomb. Once USA dropped the bomb on the beleagured country Japan, engulfed in milirtary adventures against the whole world in 1945, the real destructive power has been realised by every state and its potential advantage on the world secenerio has gone home. Since then all important Western nations manged to acquire the nuclear technology and produced bombs. Most of these restrictions did not apply to these nations. China too emerged as a good nuclear power. This was soon followed by India and highly embarssed and worried Pakistan too produced the bomb and is now feeling happy that it is safe. But sadly no one is safe . Few nuclear bombs here and there probably do not matter much in prolonged wars and the show would be over soon like cracker display during an Hindu Diwali festival. Of course there would be casualties on both sides. Few cities could be destroyed. The weaker nuclear State would be wiped out from existence by the superior power because the retalliation would be devastating in such cases. If warring fundamentalist Islamic nations acquire bombs, there is a very thin hairline sanity . Most of the Islamic history is clouded with wars of Jehad and repression and expansionest and religious fights. Sunnis and shiites are constantly fighting wars eversince the death of Prophet Mohammed( PBUH) without any settlement. The battle at Karbala in Iraq was very vicious and till today this battle is remembered for the sacrifice of Shiite leader Hussein who was killed along with his complete army and family. The bitterness has not been forgotten. Muslim wor;l is fully divided into these warring sects. Till date Sunnis had great numerical majority and had great military and political power. Now Shiite Iran has emerged as a major force and with nuclear weapon would have an edge. Once it goes nuclear, writing on the wall can be seen very easily. It was reported in the press earlier that Irans president has declared that end of the world is near. Probably he was hinting the use of his much sought weapons. Probably he wants to use against Istarel and American troops in Iraq too. One cannot imagine the retalliation that is likely from USA in such situation. These conflicts would rope in all the powers and would lead to catastrophe and probably that is the day of judgemnt which has been predicted by all the religions in the world. Probably we are all converging on this. God save humanity from the crazy and insane powers.
