SUMMARY:6th Annual MLK Teach-In
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Mason co-presents with Dr. Frederick D. Haynes\, III\, at the 6th Annual MLK Teach-in. As you are aware\, the MLK Teach-In focuses on King’s faith that led him into the streets to protest and into the corridors of power to influence public policy and provide ways for people to live out their faith in public life. This year’s theme continues the conversation regarding King’s theological orientation and public ministry. 2023 marks the 55th anniversary of the Memphis Sanitation Strike March/Movement. In light of the current social issues\, upcoming Texas Legislative Session\, and injustices in our local and global communities\, we will explore themes from the Memphis Sanitation Strike March/Movement and the faith that undergirded the march. We will also pick up on the theme of Christian responsibility from King’s imaginary letter entitled Paul’s Letter to American Christians.
